To make the most out of the metrics presented in Podcast Analytics, pay close attention to the metadata included on your podcast RSS feed.
Here are suggested guidelines to ensure all calculations done in Podcast Analytics are easily available to you:
- Include the episode’s total recorded time in the
<itunes:duration>tag of the RSS feed. Podcast Analytics calculates Average Consumption based on this metadata field.
- Ensure each episode includes an accurate launch date in the
<pubDate>tag in your RSS feed. Depending on the date range you select in Podcast Analytics, certain episodes may not be displayed if the
<pubDate>tag is outside the selected time frame.
- Determine if your episode contains dynamically inserted ads. If an episode contains dynamically inserted ads, discrepancies can appear between the episode duration and time series chart in the Episode Detail views.
- If you delete an episode previously available on Apple Podcasts and relaunch it, ensure the original episode GUID is maintained. Otherwise, you’ll see a duplicate entry for the episode.
